The transient mesophase and crystallization of poly(pentamethylene 2,6-naphthalate) (PPN) have been studied using synchrotron WAXD, SAXS. When PPN samples were stretched at room temperature it formed SCA structure. In SCA structure, the axis of the polymer chain lying perpendicular to the layers but the mesogens tilt within the layers. When increased the temperature, the mesophase developed and then began to transform into a triclinic crystal above ~58℃. The structural transformation from the mesophase to the triclinic crystal structure was supposed by the chain sliding mechanism, leading to the tilted (002) plane against the fiber axis. This tilting angle increases at early stage of crystallization and then remains when increases temperature further. In addition, SAXS data showed a two-point scattering pattern, indicating the stacked lamellar structure. During crystallization, the long period and lamellar thickness were changed with increasing temperature. |
