In LW-AB approach, the interaction between a solid and a liquid is mathematically described as the geometric mean of their surface tension components. Surface tension components of liquids have been independently evaluated and used to calculate the surface energy components of the solid. Acid-base components of the solid were often calculated to have negative square roots. In this study, plotting for various combinations of liquids showed that the large deviation could occur in the values of surface tension components depending on the kind of the apolar liquid. It also showed that there could be combinations of three liquids allowing the reliable non-negative a! cid-base surface tension components. By measuring contact angles of 6 model solid plates for 4 model aploar liquids and 4 model polar liquids, surface tension components of the solids were calculated. |
