High-pressure density and viscosity of polystyrene solutions in methylcyclohexane and toluene and in mixtures of solvent+carbon dioxide was measured using a falling-ball type viscometer at various temperatures and pressure. Density and viscosity were observed to vary linearly with pressure and temperatures. Viscosity of polymer solutions decreased as the concentration of carbon dioxide in the mixture was increased. The largest viscosity reduction was observed at the lowest temperature and at the highest polymer concentration. The viscosity of the solutions were correlated with the solution density for different compositions. The viscosity reduction behavior was well represented by using a simple exponential function. |
