Electrochemical properties of carbon fiber/ poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) composite electrode prepared by chemical polymerization |

We report a method to achieve carbon fabric/poly(3,4-ethylendioxythiophene)PEDOT composite for the pseudosupercapacitor with extraordinarily high electrical conductivity and energy density. Electrically conducting carbon fabric/PEDOT composite was prepared by chemical polymerization of PEDOT on a carbon fabric in a sequence. We studied the effects of preparation conditions on the characteristics of the composite such as electrical conductivity, surface morphology and thermal stability. We also investigated electrochemical characteristics using cyclic voltammetry and charge/discharge experiment. We confirmed carbon fabric/PEDOT composite could be electrochemically charged and discharged as pseudocapacitor, where the specific discharge capacitance was about 90 F/g at the range 0-1 V. This indicate that the chemical polymerization is quite suitable for the modification of carbon-based porous fabric to improve the performance of electrodes which can be used in supercapacitors. |
