Supported vanadium oxides are being used extensively as catalysts for a variety ofreactions, including partial oxidations and ammoxidations. Vanadium oxide supported onTiO2-ZrO2 was prepared by drying powdered Ti(OH)4-Zr(OH)4 with ammoniummetavanadate aqueous solution followed by calcining in air at high temperature. Thecharacterization of prepared catalysts was performed using 51V solid state NMR, FTIR,XRD, DSC and by measuring surface area. In the calcined catalysts 51V NMR studiesindicated the peaks corresponding to distored tetrahedral vanadia species at low V2O5contents and octahedral vanadia species at high vanadia loadings. The specific surfacearea and acidity of V2O5/TiO2-ZrO2 decreased in proportion to the vanadium oxidecontent up to 25 wt% due to the interaction between V2O5 and TiO2-ZrO2.
