제목 Effect of Agitation Speed on the Size and Size Distribution of High Molecular Weight Atactic Poly(vinyl alcohol) Nanoparticles
초록 The use of nanoparticles as drug-carrier system is an attractive possibility to achieve controlled drug release. In this study, an oil-in-water solvent evaporation method using high-pressure homogenizer was used to prepare high molecular weight atactic poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) nanoparticles. The effect of agitation speed on the size and its distribution of high molecular weight atactic PVA nanoparticles was investigated. The size of PVA particle was decreased with increasing agitation speed. This tendency might be caused by the fact that the average size of the droplets in liquid-liquid dispersion is determined by the balance between the turbulent forces tending to break up the droplets and the interfacial tension and viscosity forces holding a droplet together. The size distribution and surface morphology were studied with particle size analyzer and scanning electron microscopy, respectively.
