제목 Thermomechanical Properties of the Surface-modified HDPE Powder with Six Kinds of Chemical Agents Impregnated PMMA Bone Cements
초록 The use of PMMA bone cement for anchoring hip implants was introduced by Sir John Charnley in 1958.1 But, its poor thermomechanical properties have induced the reduction of the life span. To advance these problems, we impregnated the surface-modified HDPE powders with six kinds of chemical agents, including acetic acid, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, chloroform, toluene, and xylene, into PMMA bone cement, respectively. From this study, the thermomechanical properties such as tensile strength and polymerization temperature of the new fabricated PMMA bone cement were much better that those of conventional PMMA bone cement as shown in Table 1 and Fig. 1. But, the surface of HDPE powder is inert and it has the weak adhesion with another biopolymeric materials. As shown in Fig. 2, FTIR-ATR analysis was conducted for the changes of chemical composition of the surface-modified HDPE powders with the six kinds of chemical agents.
