The purpose of this study was to compare the properties of cured films cured by ultraviolet(UV) and electron beam(EB) radiation. Various properties of cured films have been determined by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy with attenuated total internal reflection(FTIR-ATR), digital microscope, Instron universal testing machine, and differential scanning photocalorimetry(photo-DSC). The results showed that photoinitiator type, coating thickness, and N2 purging were the most significant factors affecting surface morphology and adhesion strength of UV cured films, respectively. The low crosslinking density at the bottom side produced wrinkled surfaces and insufficient adhesion. EB curable pigmented coatings are less affected by coating thickness than UV curable pigmented coatings, at the same time, more efficient process from the economical point of view. |
