Botryococcus braunii synthesizes a large amount of long-chain unsaturated hydrocarbons ranging from 15 to 75% of dried biomass. In this work, we clarify the characteristics of hydrocarbons extracted by B. braunii LB 572. The mixture of hydrocarbons was extracted from B. braunii LB 572 with various solvents and analyzed by gas chromatography. The results indicated that melting point, calorific value, and elemental composition were 27 ~ 33℃, 43 MJ/kg, and (CH2.10O0.04)n, respectively. And n-hexane shows the highest extraction efficiency on hydrocarbon from B. braunii. Since the calorific value of hydrocarbons from B. braunii LB572 is higher than general biodiesel and the reasonable melting point, the hydrocarbons from B. braunii LB 572 could have a potential as a renewable source of fuels. |
