Preparation and Characterization of chitosan microspheres reinforced by PCL |

Polymeric microspheres are utilized in a variety of medical and pharmaceutical applications. Among them, chitosan (CHN) is one of representative polymers used in drug delivery system since CHN is biocompatible and biodegradable. Its degradability allows for controlled drug release. The physical property of CHN microspheres can be greatly manipulated by combination with other materials. In this study, we investigated the effect of reinforcement of CHN microsphere by PCL on physical properties and drug release kinetics of PCL-reinforced CHN microspheres. For this purpose, we prepared CHN microsphere at different blending ratio between CHN and PCL. The physical morphology of the CHN microspheres was modulated by varying mixing speed and emulsifier. The physicochemical properties of the complexed microspheres were examined in terms of size, surface charge, degradation behavior, and morphology using various analytical methods. |
