Star-shaped polystyrene-block-poly(methyl methacrylate) copolymer (PS-b-PMMA) and Star-shaped poly(methyl methacrylate) copolymer-block-polystyrene (PMMA-b-PS) were synthesized by using α-cyclodextrin (α-CD) as a core of the star-shape. When PS was inner part, PMMA was linked to only 75% of PS arms. The reason is that tertiary radical is more stable than secondary radical. Also unfree chain end made steric hindrance, so it made attaching hard. However, in the case of PMMA core part, all arms were synthesized to diblock perfectly. Because of this difference, phase diagram depending on shell part volume fraction was different. Those block copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography and nuclear magnetic resonance. Morphology of Star-shaped block copolymer was characterized by TEM and small angle X-ray scattering. |
