A novel SF6 separation process by membrane was studied, targeted for onsite reuse into GIS units. Zeolite membranes of MFI and SAPO-34 framework were selected as membrane materials because they exhibited a combination of high gas permeance and selectivity, which could lead to a compact and single stage membrane system, operable for GIS units in small and narrow spaces. Zeolite membranes were firstly synthesized on alumina hollow fiber supports, and gas diffusion properties were evaluated under flow of single and mixture of SF6 and N2 gas. zeolite membranes were operated at optimized conditions under dry and humid feeds, and their stability and commercialization potential were discussed. |
