제목 Optical Properties of α-Fe2O3 Nanocrystals prepared by wet chemical method
초록 The hematite (α-Fe2O3), an environmentally friendly n-type semi-conductor (Eg =2.1 eV) and the most thermodynamically stable iron oxide at room temperature, has been used in many areas such as lithium ion batteries, pigments, photocatalysis and sensors. In this work, we have successfully prepared the iron oxide nanocrystals and investigated their optical properties. The α-Fe2O3 nanocrystals have been synthesized by a simple wet chemical method. The precursors were subsequently annealed in air for 2 hours at different temperatures ranging from 300-600 °C. The crystallite size was investigated by X-Ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and the morphology was examined by field emission electron microscopy (FE-SEM).The FE-SEM image showed that α-Fe2O3 nanocrystals were of approximately spherical shape and below 50 nm in size.  Using UV-visible spectrum, the optical band-gap energy is estimated. UV-visible measurement reflects that the band-gap energy is decreasing with increasing annealing temperature. This band-gap tuning of the α-Fe2O3 nanocrystals gives wide area of advanced technological applications.
