제목 Synthesis of Poly(m-phenylene terephthal amide) with High Molecular Weight
초록 Aramids including Nomex and Kevlar are well know for their heat-resistant and strong synthetic properties. In this paper a series of experiments were done aimed to synthesize a middle product between para-aramid(ex. Kevlar) and meta-aramid(ex. Nomex), its name is PMTA shortened for Poly(m-phenylene terephthal amide). PMTA can be obtained by condensation of 1,3-phenylenediamine(MPD) and terephthaloyl chloride (TPC) in N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) with added CaCl2. Among the experiments, the optimum condition for synthesizing a polymer was found and checked. After finding the best situation, the optimum polymer was neutralized by CaO. The inherent viscosity was 0.94. Also the molecular weight of the best one should be calculated by Ubbelohde viscometer, it was 74,271. And it was characterized by X-ray Diffraction, EA, FT-IR, NMR, TGA and DSC.
