Natural melanin is an electrical conductive and biocompatible material. Natural melanin nano-particles (NMNPs), extracted from cuttlefish ink, are around 100-150nm in their diameter. In this research, we fabricated the uniformly covered NMNP films by layer-by-layer assembly technique (LBL) with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) on a glass substrate. We optimized the LBL condition for highest surface coverage and uniform coating by varying different solvents and dipping times. The growth of NMNP film was characterized by UV-Vis absorbance, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM). From this analysis, NMNPs dispersed in deionized water (DIW) showed highest surface coverage during the LBL assemblies and the loading amount of NMNPs showed logarithmic increment as increasing the dipping time in the NMMP dispersion.. This NMNPs thin-films will be applied to wide ranges of biomedical applications including tissue adhesion patches, cell scaffolds, and implantable devices. |
