The effect of DR1 on the micelle morphology of PS-b-P4VP in selective solvent (toluene/ethanol) mixtures in the solution and gel state was studied using small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), photoluminescence (PL) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The solvent selectivity was controlled by (weight percentage of ethanol in toluene/ethanol mixture). PS(12K)-b-P4VP(11.8K) and PS(19.6K)-b-P4VP(5.1K) showed spherical micelles with isotropic regions in middle range of . However, PS(3.3K)-b-P4VP(18.7K) showed transition from cylindrical to vesicle morphology. The fluorescence quantum yield of PS-b-P4VP/DR1 was enhanced considerably in PS selective solvent with DR1 confined in the core of micelles rather than corona. In the gel state, the ordered structure of PS(12K)-b-P4VP(11.8K) and PS(19.6K)-b-P4VP(5.1K) was observed with symmetries of bcc, fcc, hexagonal, gyroid and lamellar. The possible mechanism leading to these morphological changes was also discussed. |
