Adsorption of Acidic and Basic Dyes by Various Heat Treated Niobia: A Combined Effect of Acidity and Crystallinity |

Among the physical or chemical technologies developed to reduce dye contaminants, adsorptive removal is simple and more convenient. We demonstrated effective adsorption mechanisms for basic and acidic dyes (methylene blue-MeB and methyl blue-MB) over series of Nb2O5 polymorphs, obtained via the heat treatment of Nb2O5·nH2O varying temperatures in the range 100–1000°C. The adsorption of MeB on the amorphous Nb2O5 was in line with the number of Brønsted acid sites while ones with low acidity depicted high performance towards the adsorption of MB. Hence, the adsorption occurs via cation exchange and the interaction between sulfonic groups and Nb+, for MeB and MB respectively. |
