Closed-loop Phase Transition Induced by Homopolymers |

Previously, the variety of observed phase transitions obtained from the fractionated Polystyrene-block-poly(n-pentyl methacrylate) [PS-b-PnPMA] was assumed to be governed by the sensitivity of the closed-loop phase behavior to average chain size, average chemical composition, and the compositional broadness. In this study, a PS-b-PnPMA copolymer having 53,500g/mol and 0.466 of PS volume fraction, which is entirely disordered state within the experimental temperature range 110 to 250℃, was blended with PS homopolymers having the different molecular weights. With increasing amount of PS, disordered PS-b-PnPMA showed a LDOT and a UODT at lower and higher temperatures, respectively. This phase behavior was investigated by depolarized light scattering measurement and Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS). |
