The phase behavior of polystyrene-block-poly(n-butyl-random-n-hexyl) methacrylate (PS-b-P(B-r-H)MA) was investigated by using small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), birefringence and rheometry. When the total molecular weight is judiciously controlled, the closed-loop consisting of a lower disorder-to-order [LDOT] and a upper order-to-disorder [UODT] transition was observed. This is due to the similarity of energetics between P(B-r-H)MA and poly(n-pentyl)methacrylate. From the measured the pressure coefficient of the transition temperatures by birefringence, this block copolymer also exhibited excellent baroplasticity. |
