Modified activated carbon through O2/F2 mixture gas treatment for CO2/CH4 Gas Separation |

Activated carbons (ACs) were modified through O2/F2 mixture gas treatment to investigate its CO2 adsorption characteristics. The oxyfluorination was performed at various F2/O2 partial pressure ratios at room temperature. The surface chemical properties and pore size distributions on the resultant ACs were measured through XPS and CO2 gas adsorption at 273 K. The CO2 adsorption capacities on the modified ACs were different from that of pristine ACs because of the changes in the functional groups on the carbon surface. The CO2 adsorption amount of modified ACs increased about 30 % compared with a pristine at 298 K on CO2/CH4 gas separation. This result was interpreted as the functional groups introduced by O2/F2 mixture gas treatment on carbon surface increased interaction between oxygen and fluorine functional groups and CO2 gas molecular. |
