제목 Effective Increase of Lamellar Spacing of Polystyrene-block-Poly(2-vinyl pyridine) Copolymer by the Addition of Small Amounts of Cadmium Chloride
초록 The lamellar domain spacing (D) and the order-to-disorder transition temperature (TODT) of symmetric polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinyl pyridine) copolymer (PS-P2VP) with various amounts of cadmium chloride (CdCl2) were studied by using rheometry, small angle X-ray scattering and transmission electron microscopy. Even at a small volume fraction of CdCl2 (CdCl2 = 0.011), the TODT of PS-P2VP coordinated with CdCl2 was 100oC higher than that of neat PS-P2VP. Moreover, the D of PS-P2VP increased greatly at very small amounts of CdCl2. This is because of the change in the P2VP chain conformation resulting from the intra-chain coordination between CdCl2 and nitrogen atom in P2VP. On the other hand, for polystyrene-block-poly(4-vinyl pyridine) copolymer (PS-P4VP) with small amounts of CdCl2, where the inter-chain coordination occurred, D did not increase. This suggests that the position of the nitrogen atom in the pyridine ring, thus the type of coordination with CdCl2, plays a very important role in determining the increase of D.
