Formation of nanometer-sized PMMA beads by suspension polymerization with a polyelectrolyte as a stabilizer |
초록 |
We used poly(acrylic acid) as a stabilizer in a suspension polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with the water as a reaction medium and AIBN as an initiator. Polymerization reaction was run at a selected temperature between 60 and 90℃. The initiator concentration was varied from 0.1 wt% to 0.75 wt% relative to the monomer. The stabilizer concentration was adjusted to range from 0.1 wt% to 4.0 wt% with respect to the water. An increase in reaction temperature decreased the molecular weight while particle diameter did not show any variation. Whereas an increase in initiator concentration led to a progressive reduction in particle diameter, particle diameters displayed a shift from a polydisperse to monodisperse to polydisperse distribution. Change in Stabilizer concentration did not have any effect on molecular weight and particle diameter. The right combination of reaction conditions produced monodisperse spherical particles in the range of 80 and 120 nm in diameter. |
