Suspension copolymerization of styrene and butyl methacrylate with hydropobic silica as a stabilizer containing filler particles |
초록 |
We conducted a copolymerization reaction of styrene and butyl methacrylate with hydrophobic silica as a stabilizer in a suspension polymerization. Polymerization reaction was run at a selected temperature between 65 and 95℃. The initiator concentration was varied from 0.25 wt% to 5.0 wt% relative to the monomer. An increase in the reaction temperature and initiator concentration led to a decrease in molecular weight. The stabilizer concentration was varied from 0.17 wt% to 3.33 wt% relative to the water. The ratio between the styrene and BMA monomer was varied from 9/1 to 1/9. The molecular weights of copolymers were found to be less than those of the two homogeneous polymers. Incorporation of filler particles contributed a decrease in particle diameter. It was found that 5 wt% was the minimum concentration of carbon black to fill in composite particles. Particles displayed polydispersity regardless of reaction conditions with diameter in the range of 10 to 30 ㎛. |
