There are three science parks in northern, central and southern Taiwan, in which various high-tech industries, such as precision machinery, semiconductor, biotechnology, and optoelectronics are established. Since the first park, the Hsinchu Science Park (HSP), was first set up in 1980, science parks have played a key role in the research and development of emerging technologies, and national economic productivities. Limited by the scarce water resources, science parks have encouraged manufacturers for water conservation, rainwater harvesting included. For example, all plants are required to recycle and reuse at least 85% process water. The infrastructure for water resource management in the park will be introduced. In addition, case studies on strategies and technologies adopted to increase water utilization efficiency will be introduced in the current work. The differences among new and old plants and among plants in various geographic locations will also be discussed. |
