제목 Effect of  enzyme immobilization on enzymatic fuel cell
초록 Enzymatic fuel cell(EFC) utilizes the oxidation and reduction enzymes for conversion of the chemical energy stored in physiological fluids or solids to electricity. Generally, most commonly used enzymes for oxidation reaction is glucose oxidase, which oxidizes the glucose to generate electrons for power generation. Laccase enzyme is commonly used for reduction of oxygen into water. However, depending on the nature of the immobilization techniques, it would lead to different enzyme activity, hence it requires an extensive research in order for the enzymes to be stably bound to the support for redox reaction. Recently, glutaraldehyde was reported to have less impact on the enzyme conformation compared to covalent linker NHS/EDC. This research analyzed the electrochemical performance of EFC system by using glutaraldehyde as the cross-linker. The enzymes were immobilized onto the mediator attached gold electrodes through glutaraldehyde cross-linking reaction which links the available amino groups of the enzymes and the mediators. Power densities and cyclic voltammetry were also evaluated for analysis.
