Mushroom research is currently interested due to their novel compounds which could be used in various industrial applications. Mushrooms of class Basidiomycete are basically wood degradation fungi, but it also serve as food and a part of traditional medicine used by humans. Our research is on the medicinal and edible mushroom Sparassis crispa. There has recently been considerable interest in a large number of potential applications of esterase due to their roles in many biotechnological processes, in various industries like chemical, fuel, animal feed, textile, pulp and paper, food and agriculture, and pharmaceutical one. Apart from this they used for flavoring agent which required for the synthesis of pharmaceutical drugs. In this study a novel esterase was isolated from the fruiting bodies of the Sparassis crispa. The esterase activity was measured spectrophotomerically by the p-nitrophenol release from the p-nitrophenyl butyrate as a substrate. The results disclosed that fruiting bodies of this medicinal mushroom Sparassis crispa produce an esterase characterizes with a high molecular weight, a fairly high thermo stability and shows maximum activity at the pH 9. |
