Global warming and the resulting severe climate changes immediately requests reduction of use of fossil fuels or capture of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide. Among several CO2 capture process from power plants, integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) are taken much interest as the most cost-effective process. For H2/CO2 separation, a most critical part for IGCC process, membrane materials have been considerably restricted only to metal or inorganic materials due to the operation temperature higher than 300oC. However, thermally stable rigid-rod polymers can be also included as candidates of the gas separation membrane. In this study, thermally rearranged polypyrrolone (PPL) is converted into polybenzimidazole (PBI) by simple chemical treatment, and the effect of alkaline hydrolysis on the microporous characteristics will be presented. |
