High-Performance Flexible Energy Storage Prepared by Infilling of Polymer Electrolytes into Thick Carbon Electrodes |

In this study, we demonstrate the design and fabrication of flexible, high-performance energy storage, particularly supercapacitors (SCs). Infilling of aqueous or organic-basis gel polymer electrolytes (GPEs) into porous thick multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) maximizes the electrochemical performances over SCs employing only typical GPEs as both separator and electrolyte. An important attribute of this approach is the formation of large amount of electrical double layers by which highly ion-conducting GPEs are infilled in electrode that affords the increase in areal, volumetric capacitance and energy density as compared to the current SCs. We anticipate that the stategy demonstrated here can be readily extended to applications in which interfacial properties of electrode-electrolyte are significant. |
