Controlling the orientation of microstructures in thin film has attracted considerable attention in recent few decades, since it is an initial issue to satisfy the demand for nanolithographic or some specific applications. End-functionalized polymer molecules reacting with an appropriate substrate to form polymer brush is an effective approach to controlling the orientation of the microdomains. In this work, the substrate was modified by the homopolymer brushes (hydroxyl-terminated polystyrenes) instead of the random copolymer brushes. By changing the thicknesses of the PS brush, which are relevant to different grafting density of PS brush anchored to the native oxide layer of Si wafer, we investigated the thickness windows for the perpendicular microdomain orientation of PS-b-PMMA copolymers. |
