In-situ synthesis and characteristics of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane(POSS)/polyurethane acrylate nanocomposite |

Polyurethane acrylate(PUA)/polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane(POSS) hybrid materials were prepared by in situ method using POSS as reinforcement. It is known that in situ method is an ideal technique to make an excellent dispersion of POSS into organic matrix. Organic-inorganic hybrid coatings were prepared by forming POSS in PUA. POSS is structurally well defined compound composed of a silicon-oxygen framework having the general formula of RSiO3/2, and is easily functionalized with a wide variety of organic groups. Photoinitiator was added to the organic-inorganic hybrid and the coated layer was crosslinked with UV-radiation. UV-cured hybrid hard coatings showed the improved surface hardness and excellent transparency. The sol-gel reaction in a polymer matrix was studied by attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Surface hardness of UV-cured hybrid hard coating was evaluated by pencil hardness. Transmittance of hard coating was investigated by UV/Vis spectroscopy. |
