We synthesized monodispersed silica hollow spheres with various particle sizes using polystyrene nanoparticles as templates without additional dissolution or a calcination process to remove templates. As the SEM and TEM characterized, the prepared polystyrene particle sizes were about 100 nm to 2 m. The particle sizes of the hollow silica particles depended on polystyrene particle sizes and the silica shell thickness depended on the amount of silica source. In this method, when silica shells were coated on polystyrene particles, the polystyrene cores were dissolved on adding a given amount of ammonia solution, and the monodispersed silica hollow spheres were formed directly. Moreover, we tried to make other metal oxide hollow spheres like titanium oxide or germanium oxide hollow sphere without additional process to remove templates. Those materials have potential application in the area of delivery system and nanotechnology. |
