Properties of hybrid nanocomposites crosslinked with methacryloxy propyl trimethoxysilane and TEOS using sol-gel reaction |

Copolymers were synthesized by the free radical chain polymerization with 3-trimethoxysilylpropyl methacrylate(MPS), benzyl methacrylate(BzMA) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomers. The conversion into copolymers was confirmed by using H-NMR analysis and was more than 99%. Organic/inorganic hybrid nanocomposites were prepared by sol-gel reaction for the mixture of tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) and organic copolymers. The copolymer/TEOS hybrid nanocomposites had good properties of transmittance. The methoxysilyl group of copolymer was used for the reaction between inorganic materials and organic materials in the molecular level by forming the covalent bonding. These reactions played an important role in improving the compatibility between organic and inorganic materials and could make finer dispersion state in the hybrid composites. |
