The Single-Atom Catalysts for Electrochemical Nitrogen Reduction |

Although the low Faradaic efficiency (FE) in electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (ENRR) is known as a bottleneck due to the competition between hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and ENRR, this research has attracted considerable attention as an alternative reaction pathway for Haber-Bosch process. The single atom catalysts have been highlighted as one of the solutions for enhancing the FE of ENRR because of the high selectivity for ENRR compared to HER. It was demonstrated that Y, Sc, and Ti elements could be more advantageous for ENRR among single transition metal-based catalysts. Furthermore, it was also demonstrated that Ru, Mo single atoms would have the best activity among the single transition metal-based catalysts. Up to date, there exist few reports related to those single transition metal-based catalysts for ENRR. From this inspiration, here we attempted to synthesize various single-atom catalysts via the ligand-mediated method and applied them to ENRR. |
