Amphiphilic rod-coil triblock copolymers (PHEMA-b-PF-b-PHEMA) of polyfluorene(PF) rod block and poly (2-hydroethyl methacrylate)(PHEMA) coil blocks were synthesized using atom transfer radical polymerization with 2-bromoisobutylate end-capped PF as a macroinitiator. 1H NMR, GPC, IR and DSC were used to confirm the molecular structures of these block copolymers. The photoluminescence properties of PHEMA-b-PF-b-PHEMA were measured both in the solid state and in selective solvents. The self-assembling behavior of the hydrophobic and hydrophilic blocks varied depending on the type of solvent. Various surface morphologies were also found from their thin films prepared on mica by either spin-coating or dip-coating method. |
