Investigation of Micro Injection Molded Polylactide/Carbon Nanotube Nanocomposites |

Carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced polylactide nanocomposites were prepared using a melt compounding process and injection molded into a mold with micro needle patterns. Effects of CNT and process conditions on processability and surface properties of molded polylactide/CNT nanocomposites have been evaluated. The replication ratio of micro patterns was increased with increasing injection speed and holding pressure. The incorporation of CNT enhanced the surface hardness and modulus of polylactide because of reinforcing effect as well as enhanced crystallinity by nucleating effect of CNT. The thermal properties and crystallinity of polylactide/CNT nanocomposites were also investigated. This study accounts for the effect of CNT and various processing conditions on the polylactide matrix, providing a design guide for micro injection molded polylactide/CNT nanocomposites in industrial fields.
