A Facile Random Copolymer Strategy to Achieve Highly Conductive, Polymer Gel Electrolytes for Electrochemical Electronics |

Ion gel electrolytes have been proposed as next generation electrolytes due to the absence of leakage and volatility. In this study, we present a facile methodology for preparing highly conductive and mechanically elastic solid-state gel electrolytes based on poly(styrene-ran-methyl methacrylate) (PS-r-PMMA) and 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([EMI][TFSI]). When we carefully adjusted PS fraction and gel composition, the resulting gel electrolytes were highly conductive (~0.98 mS/cm) and mechanically robust (~0.072 MPa) even at room temperature. In addition, we successfully applied PS-r-PMMA-based gels to electrochemical electronics such as electrochemiluminescence (ECL) and electrochromic (EC) displays. |
