Paramagnetic complexes are now widely used in clinical medicine to provide contrast in magnetic resonance imaging(MRI). Contrast enhancement is due to the ability of paramagnetic metal cation to shorten the longitudinal(T1) and transverse(T2) relaxation times of water protons in the surrounding tissues. Thus, paramagnetic manganese(II) complexes of formula [MnII(L)X2], X = Cl, have been prepared by the condensation reaction of 2,6-pyridinemethane amine, lactobionic acid, 2-(bromomethyl)naphthalene nitrilotriacetic acid or 4,4'-biphenylcarboxylic acid in the presence of MnCl2.6H2O.synthesis,properties, and coordinationbehaviors of L are presented. In addition, toxicity in vitro, solubility, and acid stability of the manganese(II) complexes are also discussed. |
