Methane is almost renewable carbon source due to its plenty reserves in natural and shale gas. Methane is used as a simple combustion fuel at present. In contrast, methanol is already used as a starting chemical for the production of various chemicals such as acetic acid. Thus, methane conversion to methanol is a commercially important topic. In this study, various methanotrophic bacteria such as Methylosinus trichosporium OB3b, Methylococcus capsulatus (Bath), Methylomicrobium sp. HG-1 and Methylosinus sp. were characterized and evaluated as the biocatalyst for methane conversion.
