In this research, monodisperse micron-sized silica particles were prepared by the seeded sol-gel process. And the effect of several parameters on the formation of the particles was investigated, such as stirring rate, temperature, R value (H2O/TEOS), pH. Tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) was swelled into the seed particles, and then the sol-gel process was carried out in the swollen particles. The result particles were obtained through the thermal treatment at 600°C for 1hr. The morphology and size distribution were observed by optical and scanning electron microscopy (OM, SEM). The contents and thermal properties of the silica particles were measured through FT-IR spectroscopy and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). |
