The lanthanide(III) complexes have been widely studied in optoelectronics due to their narrow and characteristic luminescence. In this research, we incorporated europium(III) into molecularly imprinted polymers, well-known synthetic receptors for molecular recognition. Picloram, herbicide but suspicious endocrine disruptor, was used as not only the template molecule but also the aromatic molecule for sensitization of the europium(III) ion. The luminescence was sensitive to the coordination environment. Thus, the luminescence from europium(III) ions was intensified as picloram molecules were bound, enabling direct optical sensing. |
