Plasticized poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) is a widely used material for intravenous (IV) tubes. However recent concerns on endocrine disruption of phthalate derived plasticizers have led to various researches on alternative plasticizers. In this research a non-phthalate plasticizer was used as an alternative to endocrine disrupting dioctyl phthalate in plasticized PVC for IV tubing. Montmorillonite (MMT) was used as reinforcement to enhance thermal and mechanical properties of PVC. The PVC/MMT nanocomposite was prepared by melt compounding process. The plasticizing ability of non-phthalate plasticizer was evaluated using flexural and tensile modulus analysis. The morphology, crystallization behavior, mechanical, and thermal properties of plasticized PVC/MMT nanocomposites were investigated. This research was supported by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning of Korea; Project No. NRF-2015M3C8A6A06014792. |
