Characterization of PVA hydrogel coated mesh for separation of water and oil prepared by gamma-ray irradiation |

Recently, the separation technic of the contaminant oil from water has attracted great attention because water pollution was frequently occurred by oil spillage and leakage. In this study, we prepared poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogel coated mesh for separation of water and oil by using gamma ray irradiation. PVA was dissolved in distilled water, and the clean stainless meshes were then immersed in PVA solution. Finally, PVA coated meshes were irradiated by gamma-ray to introduce hydrophilic hydrogel on the surface of meshes. Their physical properties such as gel percent, swelling percent and separation test of oil/water have been investigated. |
