A conducting polymer, poly[2-methoxy-5-(6’-dimethoxy phosphonic acid-hexyloxy)phenylenevinylene] (MMPOH-PPV) containing phosphine oxide moiety, was synthesized via Gilch polymerization from 1,4-bis(bromomethyl)-2-(6’-dimethoxy phosphonic acid-hexyloxy)methoxybenzene (2BrMMPOHOB). The monomer (2BrMMPOHOB) was prepared by bromomethylation of 1-(6’-dimethoxy phosphonic acid-hexyloxy)methoxybenzene (MMPOHOB) which was synthesized by Williamson ether reaction from 4-methoxyphenol and 1,6-dibromohexane, followed by Grignard reaction. The monomer and its intermediate compounds were characterized by FT-IR, NMR and Melting Point Analyzer, while MMPOH-PPV was evaluated by FT-IR, NMR, GPC and UV-VIS, and solubility and photoluminescence were also measured. |
