Redox flow batteries are designed to convert and store the chemical energy to the electrical energy. One of major parts in redox flow batteries is membrane because that determines costs and life cycle of batteries. PVDF has high bromine permeability and low ion conductivity but it has high thermal stability, good chemical resistance and low cost. In this study, the poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)/silica hybrid membranes were prepared with high porosity. Nafion solution was filled the pores of membranes to enhance the physical properties. The membranes were casted by bar-coating process and modified by deep coating process. Finally, that will be employed as the separator for zinc-bromine redox flow battery. Their morphology and ion conductivity were investigated by SEM and LCR meter. The bromine permeability of the membrane was measured with the UV-VIS spectrophotometer. Also, the energy efficiency of zinc-bromine redox flow battery was measured by the unit cell tester. |
