The Generation of Long Triisopropylsilylethynyl Pentacene (TIPS-PEN) Nanofibrils in a Polymer matrix During Spin-Coating |

This work reports the formation of long triisopropylsilyethynyl pentacene (TIPS-PEN) nanofibrils in a crystalline polymer, poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) matrix induced by spin-coating process. TIPS-PEN molecules are repelled around grain boundaries of the growing PCL crystals. The separated TIPS-PENs locallized at the PCL grain boudaries and crystallized into long nanofibrils in [010] direction. The primary factors of the growing TIPS-PEN nanofibrils are the molecular weight of PCL and weight fraction(α) of TIPS-PEN in a PCL polymer matrix. We found that long TIPS-PEN nanofibrils are obtained with high-molecular-weight PCL and at the α values in the regime of 0.03-0.1. The long high-quality TIPS-PEN nanofibrils were used as an active layer in a field-effect transistor. |
