Electromechanical actuators using conducting polymers have been proposed by Baughman et. al. Pei et. al and Otero et. al demonstrated actuators utilizing deformations of polypyrrole films upon electrochemical doping. Osada et. al were also studied about a polymer gel actuator. But, Generally, conducting polymer film has very poor mechanical properties. Thus, in order to overcome these shortcomings, Conducting polymer composite films was prepared by using diffusion and chemical oxidative polymerization. From SEM studies, it was confirmed that Polyaniline (PANI) was homogeneously distributed into nylon film with various temperature. PANI/Nylon composite films exhibited electromechanical displacement. It may suggest that actuation of resulting PANI/nylon composite film was attributed to the oxidation and reduction in it’s surface in cyclic voltammogram. These results suggest that the composite film prepared in this study may serve as a potential application, for instance, medical equipments, artificial muscles of robot. |
