Novel Proton conducting membranes based on silica/poly(styrene-r-sodium styrene sulfonate) nanocomposite synthesized through a new radical copolymerization process |
초록 |
The Proton exchange membrane is the key component of in solid polymer electrolyte fuel cells. Nafion, perfluoropolymer having sulfonic acid groups at the terminal carbons of their branch chains, have been recognized as the best materials for the proton conducting membrane. However, because of the relatively high cost of Nafion, a lot of researches have been carried out to develop alternatives. In this study, new proton exchange membranes based on aromatic polymer were synthesized using amphiphilic urethane acrylate precursor. Styrene and sodium styrene sulfonate could be copolymerized through a new polymerization process in the presence of amphiphilic urethane acrylate precursor. We shall first describe the synthesis of poly(styrene-sodium styrene sulfonate-urethane acrylate) random copolymers having microphase separated structure which will be confirmed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurement. Proton conductivity, ion exchange capacity, water uptake behavior of the membranes synthesized at different compositions will be also presented. |
