A series of diblock and triblock copolymers of methyl methacrylate and n-butyl acrylate, were synthesized via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer(RAFT) polymerization. The chemical structures of block copolymers were characterized using NMR, GPC and electron microscopy techniques. Their mechanical and thermal properties were also monitored via UTM, DSC and TGA. The addition of the block segment of poly(n-butyl acrylate) largely improved physical and mechanical properties, especially, impact and wear resistance, of poly(methyl methacrylate). The differences in microphase-separation and physical properties between the di- and triblock copolymers were also investigated. |
