Surface patterning via chemical or physical vapor deposition has been of great interest in recent years. During the vapor deposition, one can introduce specific pattern using physical mask. Chemically patterned surfaces can be applied to diverse fields of recent smart applications, such as lab-on-a-chip devices, cell patterned surfaces, and smart membrane. Herein we report on surface functionalization of polyacrylonitrile by treatment with multi-amine compound via vapor phase. The reaction between multiamine and cyano functional groups can produce amine, imine or Schiff base, which has photoluminescence properties. We can introduce reactive functional groups and photoluminescence properties simultaneously by simple vapor treatment of PAN. In addition, chemical and optical patterns can be introduced using PDMS physical mask during the vapor treatment. |
