Small Molecules based Malononitrile Derivatives for Organic Solar Cells Application |

The Indacenodithieno[3,2-b]thiophene (IDTT) and malononitrile derivatives, M1 (without hexylthiophene) and M2 (with hexylthiophene), based on conjugated small-molecule-donor materials were synthesized for organic solar cells. This material has the effective form of push-pull structure to enhace the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) and the optical absorption of materials. The device performance of the M2 shows higher efficiency than the M1. In comparison with M1, M2 has HT as a π-bridge unit between the IDTT and malononitrile moieties to increase the solubility and extend the π-conjugation length. The PCEs of the devices based on IDTT-CMCN were poor. M2 showed a smaller bandgap and better solubility, thus resulting in a PCE as high as 7.60% with a short circuit current of 12.7 mA/cm2, the open-circuit voltage of 0.94 V, and fill factor of 63.8% |
